The homeowners had a chance encounter with a Great Northern Builders work vehicle just as they had been looking to find a remodel designer and contractor to help them renovate their newly purchased condo in the historic mill building, Rivermore Landing, in Newmarket. Today, the original rough-hewn wood beams, exposed brick and pipes blend into the newly renovated modern design finishes to create an inspiring, historic, yet modern space.
Why use a remodel designer and contractor for interior updates?
The homeowners collaborated with an interior designer in order to select certain furnishings and finishes, but they knew they needed to work with a remodel designer and contractor for other elements of the project. Timing of the updates needed to be managed to make sure the carpenters were not trying to access the space at the same time as the floor refinisher! Remodel designer and contractors are also able to make recommendations for new systems to the home, such as heat pump mini splits that are very popular right now.
In this project, the original hardwood floors throughout the space, as well as the wide window sills were refinished rather than replaced. The unit was retrofitted with modern Mitsubishi mini split HVAC technology for efficient heating and cooling all year long.

The basic kitchen was transformed with the installation of a Thermador/Bosch suite of appliances, American-made rustic alder wood cabinets with a midnight satin stain and white textured subway tile designed to look like brick. An off white, gray-veined engineered stone countertop sealed the new modern ambiance of the space.
You’ll find the monochrome design aesthetic carried through to the master bath as you step onto a vibrant black and white tile mosaic as well as as the white subway tiled walk in shower.

Custom built in storage was created throughout the living spaces including walk-in closets as well as beautifully crafted, locally produced bookshelves that pivot open in the center to allow access to a storage space hidden behind. .
“We found Great Northern to be a great Builder to work with. Understanding your needs and wants, while keeping you well informed along the way. We are very satisfied with the finished product.”
