This neutral white primary bathroom feels effortlessly timeless—but what makes it truly exceptional is how it solves some of the most common challenges homeowners face when designing a bathroom: moisture, wear and tear, and long-term maintenance.

Part of a well-planned home addition, the bathroom needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing home while offering modern performance. The homeowners wanted a clean, classic look, but they also prioritized durability and ease of maintenance, especially for the floor and shower areas. That’s where Dekton by Cosentino came in.

Solving Common Bathroom Design Problems with Dekton

Bathrooms are high-traffic, high-moisture environments, and not every material can handle the conditions. Many homeowners are familiar with the pain points:

  • Flooring that scratches, stains, or wears down quickly
  • Shower walls that require constant scrubbing
  • Grout lines that collect moisture and mildew
  • Trendy finishes that age poorly or feel out of place within a few years

Dekton, an ultracompact surface made with advanced heat-compression technology, offers a solution. It’s non-porous, stain-resistant, heat-resistant, and highly durable, making it ideal for both residential and commercial bathroom applications.

In addition to performance, Dekton is available in a wide range of colors, finishes, sizes, and thicknesses—giving designers and homeowners the flexibility to match virtually any aesthetic.

Bathroom Finishes That Work Hard and Look Great

For the primary bathroom floor, Dekton ‘Marina’ was selected; a softly veined neutral tone that adds warmth and elegance to the space. This was our first time using Dekton as a bathroom flooring material, and it exceeded our expectations. Its smooth, matte surface is comfortable underfoot and holds up exceptionally well against water, foot traffic, and daily use.

On the shower walls, the homeowner chose Dekton ‘Salina’, which is the polished version of Marina. These large-format slabs reduced grout lines dramatically, making the space easier to clean and giving it a sleek, seamless appearance.

Behind the walls, we used the Schluter® waterproofing system—our go-to for ensuring long-lasting protection in wet areas. This proven system provides a secure moisture barrier and peace of mind, ensuring that what’s underneath the beautiful finishes is just as thoughtfully built.

Matte black Kohler fixtures—including a rain shower head—finish the space with a bold, modern contrast that works beautifully within the neutral palette.

The Perfect Paint to Tie It All Together

To round out the color scheme, we used Sherwin-Williams Drift of Mist (SW9166) for the walls. This soft, warm gray serves as a perfect backdrop, bridging the white and black tones in the space while maintaining a fresh and calming feel.
