This Great Room in Ogunquit is part of a larger project. If you haven’t already seen the kitchen portion of this project, read more about that here.
As a part of a larger, whole-home renovation, we refreshed a charming 400-square-foot great room in Ogunquit. This beautiful space, dating back to the early 1900s, was the original structure that has seen various additions over the years. The homeowners did not want this portion of the home to receive the same full gut renovation as the rest of the home, we focused on enhancing and preserving the room’s historic integrity while seamlessly updating its functionality.

Updates for the Great Room in Ogunquit
The refresh for this great room in Ogunquit began with some essential updates to the electrical system, ensuring it met modern standards without compromising the original structure. We reinforced the walls with a subtle turnbuckle system, offering both stability and respect for the building’s historical craftsmanship. The large original windows, a hallmark of this great room, were reglazed to maintain their authenticity while improving energy efficiency and functionality.

To bring in more natural light and modern appeal, we replaced the front picture window with an updated, energy-efficient model from Harvey that stayed true to the room’s classic look. The original Fir floors were refinished, allowing their rich character to shine through while adding durability and luster. We also installed an updated ceiling fan and light fixture from Wayfair to provide fresh lighting in this well-loved gathering space.
Completing the refresh of this great room in Ogunquit, we replaced the exterior French doors with a beautiful new set from Andersen’s 400 Series, combining quality craftsmanship with the classic aesthetic that complements the home’s style. Each element of this refresh has allowed us to honor the room’s history while equipping it for many more years of enjoyment.
