The interior remodel of this Kittery Point home was completed while we were on site building a new attached garage .
This cozy post-and-beam style home home had a Jotul woodstove, but they wanted to change this out to a gas fire place and also make some updates to improve the space’s functionality while preserving its original charm.
Interior Remodel Details
One of the main changes in this interior remodel project was removing a small load-bearing partition wall to create a more open layout.

To ensure the home’s structural integrity, we installed a new support beam in its place, carefully finishing the wood to closely match the existing beams. The new beam blends in nicely and feels like it’s always been part of the home.

While working in an open-concept interior, maintaining cleanliness and minimizing disruption to the rest of the home is essential. We used protective coverings for the floors and furniture, managed dust by building a zip wall system around the work space – and by using an air filtration system, and maintained clear communication with the client throughout the process. This approach not only helped keep the job site tidy but also contributed to the client’s overall satisfaction with the project.
Additionally, we upgraded the fireplace with a gas insert to make it more efficient and user-friendly. To complete the look, we added a slate hearth and surround that complements the rustic character of the space while giving it a fresh, updated feel.

The updates of this interior remodel project bring a practical and aesthetic balance to the home, keeping its traditional charm while making it more functional and comfortable for everyday living.
